Kerry ahead in battleground states

The latest Zogby Interactive poll puts Mr. Kerry ahead of President Bush in 13 of the 16 closely contested states -- two more states than the Massachusetts senator led before the debate and the most since August. The latest survey was conducted between last Thursday, after the debate ended, and Tuesday afternoon, before vice-presidential contenders Dick Cheney and John Edwards debated.

Online Poll Tally Shows Edwards Pounding Cheney

Six out of 9 online polls show Edwards pounding Cheney with margins ranging from 88% to 9% (Wall St. Journal) to 59% to 41% (CNBC). Of the three polls showing Cheney miraculously winning, we have FOX (what a surprise...not!), AOL (redneck central) and ABC - which used a methodology so fraudulently weighted toward Repugs that even Peter Jennings hinted that it was a bogus result. So not only do these polls show that the REAL American majority public favors the Kerry-Edwards message, but that the media manipulates their polls (CNN actually DELETED their poll, which showed Edwards destroying Cheney - they reposted a new poll later, giving Freepers a chance to mobilize - but it still didn't help!). We have a STRONG feeling that at the polls on Nov. 2, Bush is gonna get handed one of the most humiliating defeats in US history - they won't be able to throw out or change enough votes to help him!

Dear Friends,

You may have heard by now that the Michigan Republican Party has called for my arrest. That's right. They literally want me brought up on charges -- and hope that I'm locked up.

No, I'm not kidding. The Republican Party, yesterday, filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutors in each of the counties where I spoke last week in Michigan.

My crime? Clean underwear for anyone who will vote in the upcoming election.

Each night on our 60-city "Slacker Uprising Tour" through the 20 battleground states, I've been registering hundreds (and on some nights, thousands) of voters at my arena and stadium events. I then ask for everyone over 23 who has never voted (or didn't vote in the last election) to stand up. I tell these slackers that I understand and respect why they think politicians are not worth the bother. I tell them that I may have been the original slacker, and that I do not want them to change their slacker ways. Keep sleeping 'til noon! Keep drinking beer! Stay on the sofa and watch as much TV as possible! But, please, just for me, on 11/2, I want you to leave the house and give voting a try -- just this once. The stakes this time are just too high.

If they promise me that they'll do this, I give the guys a 3-pack of new Fruit of the Loom underwear, and the women get a day's supply of Ramen noodles, the sustenance of slackers everywhere.

But in the ABC, CBS, and FOX (i.e. corporate media) polls, Bush is still magically ahead - although even FOX could not get Bush to come out ahead under its untweaked results (registered voters). If ever there were proof of media poll manipulation, this consistent disparity between media and nonmedia polling is it. Worse, this manipulation may be designed to "legitimize" the results produced by widespread pro-bush poll rigging on Nov. 2. Now we need your help again. Tonight, John Edwards and Dick Cheney will meet for the only vice presidential debate of the campaign. Once again, we need you to take action the moment they leave the stage.

There are four critical things you can do to help beat the Republican spin machine.

Forward this email to family, coworkers, and friends.
Vote in online polls.
Write a letter to the editor.
Call radio and television stations.

Your 10 minutes of activism following the debate can make the difference. It is important that we double our efforts from the last debate, because the Republicans are now copying our strategy.

Vote in Online Polls

National and local news organizations will be conducting online polls during and after the debate asking for readers' opinions. Look for online polls at these news websites, and make sure to vote in every one of them:

Write a Letter to the Editor

Immediately after the debate, go online and write a letter to the editor of your local paper. If you feel John Edwards presented an optimistic vision for the next four years, put it in your letter. If you feel Dick Cheney failed to explain the last four years of failed policies, put it in your letter.

This is a call to ACTION for all Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queers of color, Drag Queens, Sex Radicals, Political Militants, and ALL OTHERS being excluded from "traditional" culture to meet for a peaceful march and demonstration of protest outside of the Presidential Debate. Our presence will feed into a large diverse demonstration of music, street theater and protest organized by several local social justice groups that comprise the October 13th Alliance. The Labor Dept's Own Unpublicized Figures Show that the REAL Unemployment Rate is 9.5% and Holding

The Bush Labor Dept., in true shady corporate style, keeps two sets of books: the "official" jobless figures and the REAL jobless figures: The San Fran. Chronicle reports: "To be counted as unemployed, a person must have actively sought a job within the last four weeks and have been completely out of work. Wanting a job but not actively looking takes a person out of the labor force and out of the unemployment rate calculation. In response to recurring questions about the unemployment rate, the Labor Department has created other indicators that, while generally ignored by politicians and media, paint a fuller portrait of the employment market. This alternate index, sometimes called an underemployment rate" figures in "dscouraged workers" and those working part time while looking for work." In August, when the official unemployment rate fell 0.1 percentage point to 5.4 percent, this alternative index remained at 9.5 percent -- right where it had been the previous month."

WASHINGTON - Democrat challenger John Kerry (news - web sites) has pulled ahead of President Bush in a poll published by Newsweek magazine showing Thursday's television debate erased the lead Bush had enjoyed for the last month.

In a two-way contest, the Kerry/Edwards ticket in the Nov. 2 presidential election led by 49 percent against 46 percent for Bush/Cheney, according to 1,013 registered voters polled by Princeton Survey Research Associates International.

According to the poll, 61 percent of Americans who watched the first presidential debate on Sept. 30 said Kerry won, 19 percent said Bush won and 16 percent said they tied. The number of debate viewers surveyed was 770.

CBS: "Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe stayed on message from the time they took the stage: Vote John Kerry on Nov. 2. The rockers joined an assortment of performers across the country Friday night in beginning the "Vote for Change" tour, a 10-day series of concerts in battleground states aimed at helping oust President Bush. Springsteen opened with a solo version of "The Star Spangled Banner," then a rousing rendition of his anti-war anthem "Born in the U.S.A." "America is not always right - that's a fairy tale you tell your children - but America is always true, and it's in seeking this truth that we find a deeper patriotism," Springsteen told cheering fans after endorsing Kerry, a Democrat. Springsteen and Stipe, both critics of the war in Iraq, took the stage together to introduce the first band, Bright Eyes, and to remind the crowd to vote. "This is a very important moment for every one of us and for our country," Stipe said.

Was Bush was Being Coached through an Earpiece during the Debate?

Unbelievable! But likely true! John Reynolds writes "In the middle of an answer [during the presidential debate] last night Bush said, "now let me finish" as if someone was interrupting him- yet nobody did- he [seemed to be] talking to the person in his earpiece. Listen to the mp3 yourself- or watch the video at c-span. did anyone out there record the debate... The 'let me finish' quip was clearly Bush talking to ( probably Rove) in his earpiece- saying let me finish before you give me the next answer. He blows it 60 sec into his 90 sec reply- so no warning lights had gone off and Lehrer had not motioned for him to end as he had plenty of time left. my guess is that it's an implant, not something stuck in his ear. Shouldn't this be enough to warrant a major investigation of some sort- the 'president' is so incompetent he needs an earpiece to speak in public?" We woonder what doctor (if an implant) would unethical enough to do such a thing?

Even the Most Bogusly Weighted Polls Show Kerry Trampling Bush in Debate

Man, we'd LOVE to see the results of this poll done by an honest polling outfit! It would be the most humiliating rout of Bush's "residency!" But even as shamelessly weighted toward Bush as USA Today's polling is (they have been showing Bush ahead by a completely unbelievable 52-44%!), they couldn't "out-weigh" (get it!) the impact Kerry had on the American public last night. According to their post-debate poll, Kerry won by 53-37%! We bet that if you scraped off the phony weighting, you'd find Kerry's margin was more like 65-25%!

The American Prospect: "In 2000, television agreed on the first night that Al Gore won the debate. Then the spin set in. Look out for a replay. In case you were wondering whether or not to pay attention to the presidential debates over the next three weeks, CNN's blowhard-in-residence Jack Cafferty delivered the verdict in advance on Monday morning." What does this mean? "By preemptively declaring the debates to be meaningless political theater, the television news networks are giving themselves permission to cover them not as a battle of ideas but as a spectacle. Ditto in the print media." So watch for another demeaning, dishonest rewrite of history try to rob Kerry of his victory.

The Crawford, Texas Newspaper Endorses John Kerry

We can't WAIT to see how Tom Brokaw, et al. spin this one! They will probably just black it out! Reuters reports that "The newspaper in Bush's adopted hometown of Crawford threw its support on Tuesday behind Bush's Democratic rival, Sen. John Kerry. The weekly Lone Star Iconoclast criticized Bush's handling of the war in Iraq and for turning budget surpluses into record deficits. The editorial also criticized Bush's proposals on Social Security and Medicare. "The publishers of The Iconoclast endorsed Bush four years ago, based on the things he promised, not on this smoke-screened agenda," the newspaper said in its editorial. "Today, we are endorsing his opponent, John Kerry." It urged "Texans not to rate the candidate by his hometown or even his political party, but instead by where he intends to take the country."
